Saturday night at 9 pm, the number 22 (AP) ranked West Virginia Mountaineers go up against the number 15 (AP) ranked Tigers of LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Although the Mounties have managed to remain undefeated this season thus far, they have played teams that as of yet failed to appear in the top 25- Costal Carolina, Marshall and Maryland. Saturday, the will face the south’s most hostile audience- 93,000 Tigers fans in Tiger Stadium.
The Mounties don’t do so well against teams with big crowds on the road. I’ll be on ESPN 2 pulling for Gino, Noel and the rest, but I think the so-far undefeated season is coming to a close. After that, its Big East games and we can start analyzing how WVU will perform against Pitt in the race for the Big East Championship (preseason polls placed Pitt in the top spot with WVU tied for third). Currently WVU leads the Big East and Pitt is in the cellar, but with no actual conference play.
As you can tell, I am a college football fan and a WVU Mountaineers fan in particular. I have been going to games at Mountaineer Field for the last 15 years, and to me nothing beats an autumn Saturday in Morgantown. My last visit was for the first game this season against Coastal Carolina along with my wife Laura and a couple of good friends. The weather was unseasonably cool but beautiful and it made for an awesome Saturday. Aside from Mountaineer Field, we visited Crockett’s Lodge (where I used to cook), Casa d’ Amici (best pizza in Mo-town) and Mario’s Fish Bowl- all Morgantown landmarks. It was a great weekend, and I’m glad it was because it will be my only football weekend this season- starting up a law firm takes up a lot of time!
If you are here and reading this, have a safe, fun weekend. Let’s GOOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEEERS!!!
